As an employer, McDonald’s has encouraged all its staff members to get vaccinated as soon as they can.

However Marc McElrath, who is the developmental partner for Vuvale Restaurants Fiji Ltd (parent company for McDonald’s), said it was the right of the employee to decide on being vaccinated or not.

“Should they choose not to get vaccinated we as employer have to keep them safe and as such we reposition our staff away from face to face contact with customers, these positions are often in the back area where they are a lot safer than in the front or drive through,” he said.

Business has been severely affected for their McDonald’s branches by the second wave of COVID-19.

Mr McElrath said their sales had dropped 70 per cent and while all restaurants were still open they were doing everything possible to keep their people employed at this difficult time.

“Revenue is severely impacted however we are doing everything possible to keep our customer prices low and work on a value strategy that will give our customers good value,” he said.

Mr McElrath added that McDonald’s would start home delivery at the end of this month — they were working with local delivery contractors to get this going.
