The island of Mali in Macuata will soon be connected to electricity, a long-awaited development expected to transform the lives of its people.
Resident Seru Moce said work had already begun with teams clearing access roads to allow for the installation of infrastructure.
“With electricity on the way, living conditions are expected to improve significantly, particularly in homes where lighting has been a constant challenge,” he said.
Mr Moce said the project is a milestone for the island’s three villages, many of whom have relied on generators and kerosene lamps for their daily energy needs.
“Access to reliable power is also expected to boost education, enabling children to study at night in safer and more comfortable conditions.”
He said the electricity would open up new income-generating opportunities.
“Our health care will also improve with better storage of medicines and the ability to operate essential equipment.
He said this was something they had longed for a very long time.
