Eight teams from all over Fiji will be competing in the Lincoln Refrigeration Fiji Police Inter-formation Soccer Tournament that will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa starting today.

Superintendent of police Surend Prasad is encouraging all football fans and enthusiasts to come out in numbers and attend the three-day competition.

“Entrance to the tournament will be free for all of the three days, and we are encouraging the people living around and near Labasa to come out in numbers to witness a great display of football,” he said.

The annual tournament features police football teams from all the districts around the country. With the Police Mobile Force as defending champions since last year’s tournament, Mr Prasad said they were expecting an exciting battle from the host Labasa.

“We have a few district reps in the Labasa side so they will be looking dangerous as well.

“Also, the two teams from the Western Division will be the teams to watch as they will have district reps from football powerhouse Ba and Nadi.”

He also mentioned that from this tournament, the Fiji Police Force will be selecting a squad to face the Republic of Fiji Military Forces in the upcoming Sukuna Bowl competition.

“We are looking forward to the tournament because from there we will be selecting a team to play the RFMF in the Sukuna Bowl.”

Prasad thanked sponsors Lincon Refrigerators Pte Ltd for coming on board as major sponsors of the event.

“We just want to thank our sponsors for their support, because this tournament would not be possible without you.”
