Eight bus operators have been issued fines for oil leakages at the Lautoka bus stand.
The fines were issued after spot-checks.
“These leakages not only create an unsightly mess but also pose serious safety hazards due to slip risks and contribute to environmental pollution,” said LCC.
“With pavement upgrade works now underway at the bus station, oil spills could permanently stain the new concrete surfaces, undermining the entire project.”
“Bus companies are strongly urged to repair faulty buses immediately.”
LCC said the current Litter Act 2008 only imposes a $40.00 fine which it adds is far from being a strong deterrent.
