Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) expects its customer base to exceed 230,000 this year as demand for electricity continues to grow across the country.

The authority revealed the growth while presenting its 2023-2024 annual reports to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday.

Chief financial officer Semisi Tawake said EFL had experienced steady growth in customers, electricity generation and infrastructure investment over the past three years.

“Customer numbers increased from 219,853 to 227,607 in 2025, and it will go over the 230,000 mark this year,” Mr Tawake said.

Electricity sales revenue also rose significantly during the period, increasing from $387million in 2023 to $431million in 2025.

Mr Tawake said total assets grew from $1.51billion to $1.69billion, reflecting continued investment in the nation’s electricity network.

“Electricity generation increased from approximately 1.12 million megawatt-hour to 1.25 million megawatt-hour in 2025, an increase of 9 per cent around 2024, and we have a forward projection of 5 per cent per annum from now until 2029.”

He said the national electricity network expanded to almost 12,000 kilometres over the three-year period.

Mr Tawake also highlighted staffing challenges faced by the company since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The complement of EFL is from about 1000 before COVID.

“We’ve seen a lot of migration in the employees during that time, and we still haven’t reached the 1000 mark until now, although the operations have gone up.”

He said EFL’s workforce increased from 883 employees to 967 during the review period as the company worked to keep pace with the growing demand and network expansion.
