A new champion will be crowned in the Under-19 division of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition after defending champions Ra High School were knocked out in a thrilling semi-final clash at Churchill Park yesterday.

RKS Eels stunned the title holders with a hard-fought 28-24 victory, ending Ra High’s reign and securing a place in the grand final.

The match lived up to its billing as both sides went try-for-try in a fast-paced and physical encounter.

Ra High showed the confidence of defending champions, but the Eels remained composed under pressure, especially in the closing stages, to pull off the upset win.

RKS captain Sairusi Vela said the team came into the match focused on one goal.

“We came here for one mission and that is to win, and I thank the boys for all their effort and hard work that has enabled us this win,” he said.

The result sets the stage for a new winner in this year’s competition, with RKS Eels advancing to face Queen Victoria School in the final.

QVS booked their spot after edging Ba Provincial Freebird Institute 14-10 in the second semi-final, setting up what promises to be an exciting decider between two determined sides.
