EVERY decision made in Fiji’s education system should be judged by one measure — whether it improves the learning and wellbeing of students, says the Ministry of Education.
Speaking on behalf of Education Minister Aseri Radrodro at the School Management Association of Fiji’s 11th National Conference in Suva, deputy secretary Timoci Bure called on school leaders, management committees and education stakeholders to remain united in putting children first.
“We may come from different schools, different organisations and different communities, but we are united by one purpose, to give every child the opportunity to succeed through education,” Mr Bure said.
He said every child had the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment, while teachers and school leaders also needed strong backing from their communities.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive and well-managed school.
“Every teacher deserves the support needed to teach effectively. Every principal deserves the confidence of knowing they are supported by their School Management Committee and their community.”
Mr Bure urged delegates attending the conference to ensure that discussions and decisions remained focused on students.
“As you participate in this conference, I ask that you keep one question in mind: How will this improve the learning and wellbeing of our students?
“Every discussion, every decision and every investment in education should be measured against that question.
“When we keep students at the centre of our decisions, we remain focused on what matters most.”
The conference brought together school management representatives, education leaders and stakeholders from across the country to discuss ways of strengthening school governance and improving educational outcomes.
