Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says consultations on the e-ticketing system involving all the stakeholders will be held soon.
He said they had received concerns from bus operators that if cash payment of bus fares was allowed, income could go missing.
Mr Rabuka said bus operators informed him the e-ticketing system had been positive for them.
“They want to keep it because they receive the full income, money does not go missing like it used to before the e-ticket machine was introduced,” he said.
“After the e-ticket system, they saw positive changes so we need to consider that too.
“But at the same time, we also need to hear the concerns from the public like network issues.”
Villagers in Wainunu, Bua, told Mr Rabuka that poor network connection meant they could not top up their bus cards.
They said there were days where the post mistress in Daria, Wainunu, would walk around the building with the top up machine in search of a network connection.
Villagers told Mr Rabuka that bus drivers had assisted them by allowing passengers to get their cards topped up in Lekutu or Nabouwalu, on their way to Labasa Town.
Mr Rabuka said the network needed to be fixed and the consultation would cover all the important issues.
