E-platform exams

THE Education Ministry will use the e-platform to deliver examination papers to schools as part of its efforts to combat exam paper leakage.

Yesterday, Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy launched the use of the Fiji Education Management Information System where he activated exam papers on the platform.

These exam papers can only be downloaded by heads of schools via their own codes and passwords and can only be done once.

Director Exams, Seci Waqabaca said once a download was done, the system in the ministry would shut out those who might want to access the system through history of downloading.

“The system at the Education Ministry can only be accessed by the Director Exams and head teachers, so the teachers would only need to download the paper once, print and then photocopy it,” Mr Waqabaca said.

He added this was done to prevent the problem of exam paper leakage that was a constant problem in the past.

“This will mean that instead of having the exam papers having to go through many hands, the system allows only two people to handle the papers,” Mr Waqabaca said.

“This is the direction that we’re going into, maximising the use of the e-platform and with that what we’ve done instead of sticking with the traditional approach of administrating examinations, now we’re using the e-platform that has the potential.

“The only difference now is that instead of us solely having the administration of exam papers, we’re also giving it to the end users and those are the schools.”

Mr Waqabaca confirmed that costs would be catered for by the schools through the education grant.

Schools that may not have connectivity to the internet will have the papers delivered to them.

Mr Reddy said this would begin with Years 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 with Years 10 and 12 to have theirs next year and to be followed by Year 13 in 2017.
