Fijian made products and its digital services will soon reach global markets faster and more efficiently.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica made the comment at the launch of the National E-commerce Strategy in Suva yesterday as part of the Government’s national digitisation initiative.

“This strategy is not just about online shopping or digital payments, it is about economic empowerment, resilience, and unlocking new doors for every Fijian,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“It is about ensuring that whether you are a farmer in the highlands, a weaver in the outer islands, or a tech entrepreneur in Suva, you have the tools, the access, and the opportunity to succeed in the digital economy.”

He said as the world continued to change rapidly, digital commerce was no longer the future but the present.

“It is important to highlight that we are also looking at the bigger picture, e-commerce is just one piece of our broader digital transformation agenda.

“That is why we are also developing the National Digital Strategy, a comprehensive framework that will drive digital progress across all sectors.

“This ensures that Fiji not only has the infrastructure, policies, and skills to support e-commerce but is also well-positioned to harness the full potential of the digital economy.”

He said those strategies would empower businesses, enhance government services and enable digital trade and innovation.

Ministry of Trade permanent secretary Shaheen Ali said the launch of the strategy was a culmination of their work since 2019 that had now been agreed by Cabinet, Government and stakeholders to move Fiji into a more digitally enhanced trading system.

He added after the launch, the ministry planned to shift its focus on implementation talks facilitated by the National E-commerce Committee.

“We will use a framework provided by our partners where the committee will monitor some of the key performance indicators as to how is Fiji tracking on some of these strategies and the actionable items that is mentioned in the implementation plan,” Mr. Ali said in an interview.
