ANDREW Durutalo has returned to Fiji after 20 years to take up the role of Head of Men’s High Performance with Fiji Rugby.
Durutalo who is also a former student of Suva Grammar School will play a key role in strengthening the pathway for Fiji’s male players and coaches, from age-grade rugby through to the senior national teams.
His role will support the Fiji Under-18 and Under-20 programmes, Fiji Men’s 7s and the Flying Fijians, with a focus on identifying, developing and preparing talent for international competition.
Speaking during the press conference yesterday Fiji Rugby General Manager High Performance Naca Cawanibuka said Durutalo’s appointment would strengthen the organisation’s high-performance programme.
“Andrew brings a unique combination of international playing experience, high-performance leadership and global sports administration,” Cawanibuka said.
“He also understands Fiji, our rugby culture and the enormous potential that exists within our player and coach pathways.”
Durutalo said he was grateful to Fiji Rugby for trusting him with the role.
“It’s been a great pleasure to return home after 20 years since I left Fiji from the same high-performance unit,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the coaches, the staff and everybody here at Fiji Rugby.”
Durutalo will work with national team coaches and Fiji Rugby’s high-performance departments to improve player development and strengthen the pathway to the national teams.
