BEING named the 2026 Mogul Fan Player of the Year has only fuelled young McDonald’s Fiji Fijian Drua Women star Carletta Yee’s desire to achieve even greater success next season.
The youngest member of the Drua squad, 18-year-old Carletta Yee received the fan-voted award at the club’s Annual Presentation Night held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi on Tuesday.
A fitting reward for a breakthrough campaign that saw her emerge as one of the side’s brightest performers.
While humbled by the recognition from supporters, Yee said the award was made even more special because of the environment created within the Drua family.
“It feels special. Being part of the Drua is so special and the environment we create here is something you always want to be a part of,” she said.
“Just getting to represent the Drua as a whole and being part of this amazing group of women and the coaches, I just feel so blessed. I’m looking forward to another great season with them next year.”
Rather than being satisfied with individual recognition, Yee has already set her sights on an even bigger target.
“I guess it just pushes me to win the Player of the Year next year,” she said.
The talented youngster admitted the pain of the Drua’s Super Rugby Women’s grand final defeat still lingers but believes it will become the team’s biggest source of motivation.
“I’m looking forward to another grand final next year. As our CEO said, we have to grab that feeling we felt after that loss and turn it into motivation to get the win next year. We’re just looking forward to everything next year brings and learning from this season and everything we’ve achieved so far.”
Yee dedicated the award to her family, especially her parents and sisters, thanking them for their unwavering support throughout her rugby journey.
“They’ve always been there for me since day one. Whether it’s home or away, they’re always in the stands supporting me.”
She also had a message for the loyal Drua supporters.
“We’re devastated that we couldn’t get the win, but I promise you all that next year we’re going to get another home grand final, and we’re going to win that grand final.”
Encouraging the next generation to embrace the sport, Yee urged young girls to give rugby a chance.
“Just try rugby. It’s for anyone. Any shape or size that you are, just try rugby. You never know what experience it gives you or what may come your way. It’s something you never want to miss out on.”
