THE Fijian Drua women’s team are using every match, every challenge and every setback as part of their build-up toward the upcoming Super Rugby women’s season.

Following their recent warmup match against the New South Wales Waratahs, the Fijian Drua women’s team have turned their attention to preparation and progress ahead of the upcoming season, with players highlighting resilience, teamwork, and learning from mistakes as crucial area going forward.

Speaking in a post-match interview, flanker Alfreda Fisher reflected on the challenges the side faced during the game, particularly after losing their flyhalf Imeri Nai early in the first half due to an injury.

Despite the setback, she said the squad remained confident of the depth within the team and the opportunity for the new players to step up.

“It was sad losing a player, but it did not affect us since we had backup, and all the new players were also going on the field,” Fisher said.

The match served as an important build-up fixture for the Drua women’ s team as they continue preparations for the upcoming Super Rugby women’s season.

She highlighted that every game at that stage is crucial in helping the team identify areas that need improvement before the season officially begins.

“This match is important as it sets the tone of our super rugby performance for the season.”

Strengthening their set-piece execution was also one of the highlighted points, upon reflecting on the recent game performance.

Fisher added that the team would return to training, review the game thoroughly and work on correcting mistakes ahead of their next outing.

“We are to work on our set-piece, when we go back, we’ll do our review and then we’ll go again,” she said.

The team also showed strong mental resilience after the injury of Nai – using the moment as motivation, rallying together to finish strongly for their injured teammate.

“We managed to talk it through with the girls, telling them we’ll go again and we’re doing this for her. Although it was a draw, but we managed to come out,” Fisher said.

She also acknowledged the supporters who turned up in numbers to back both the women’s and men’s team, thanking fans for their continued support as the Drua women prepare for a demanding season ahead.
