THE McDonald’s Fijian Drua Women’s team have secured a coveted home semi-final spot in the Super Rugby W competition with an emphatic 50-17 triumph over the Queensland Reds Women.
The Drua crossed the try line seven times, complementing their efforts with five conversions and a penalty, while the Reds managed just three tries and a single conversion.
Dominating the set-piece, the Drua forwards laid a solid foundation, delivering quality ball to their lethal backline, who relentlessly punished their opponents.
Flyhalf Varanisese Qoro orchestrated the attack with tactical brilliance, combining pace and vision to carve space and exploit the advantage line.
Inside centre Josivini Naihamu was also a standout, imposing herself in collisions and injecting grit and intensity both in attack and defence.
Despite the commanding win, coach Mike Legge will no doubt be concerned by his team’s drop in intensity during the second half, which allowed the Reds to claw their way back into the game.
Discipline was another issue, with penalty counts mounting as the match entered its final quarter.
With a bye week ahead before their home semi-final, the Drua have ample time to refine their game and take a crucial step closer to Super Rugby W dominance — a thrilling prospect for the team and their passionate supporters.
