DOMESTIC issues brought to the limelight regarding Fijian Drua players Iosefo Masi and Peni Matawalu have resulted in the club choosing not to comment on the matter of the former and place sanctions on the latter.
This was relayed by the club’s general manager commercial Shane Hussein in a media conference yesterday.
Hussein stated since the allegations of domestic violence against Masi were before the courts, there would be no comment on the matter.
“We understand the matter is before the courts, it will be improper for the club or anyone to comment at this stage so as to not prejudice the ongoing judicial process,” Hussein said.
Masi was charged by police for allegedly assaulting his de-facto partner last week and was produced in a special court sitting at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court on Saturday.
As for Matawalu, the club conducted its internal process and sanctioned the player accordingly in line with previously available information.
They will await the outcome of any process undertaken by the authorities to determine their next step.
A complaint for assault was lodged against Matawalu, alleging he assaulted his wife which resulted in her being hospitalised.
Meanwhile, in last week’s match against the Waratahs, where the Drua won 28-14, both players did not make an appearance on the field.
Masi was initially named in the 23-man squad before head coach Glen Jackson told the media last Friday he would not play because of personal commitments.
Matawalu on the other hand did not play for the team against the Waratahs and the Highlanders nearly a fortnight ago.
