THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are set to secure their new head coach within the next two weeks, with the franchise already in negotiations with its preferred candidate.
Drua chief executive officer Jeff Miller confirmed the recruitment process was nearing completion, with discussions underway as the club works towards finalising the appointment.
“We are close to finalising the Drua head coach appointment and we are in negotiations with the preferred candidate,” Miller said.
Miller said while the identity of the candidate remained confidential, the Drua were also reviewing the wider coaching structure to ensure the new coaching team had the right balance of skills and a strong connection with the players and Fiji.
“We are also looking at the coaching staff as a whole to ensure we have complementary skills and a strong connection to the players and Fiji,” he said.
The Drua CEO said negotiations with the shortlisted candidate remained confidential and the club was not in a position to reveal names at this stage.
The official announcement of the new head coach is expected after the Fijian Drua Women’s season concludes, as the franchise wants the focus to remain on the women’s team’s campaign.
“We hope to have signed the head coach within the next two weeks; however, any announcement is unlikely to take place until after the Drua Women’s season is complete as we feel the focus should be with them as they try to create something special for Fiji,” Miller added.
