The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua aims to change its losing streak against the Blues when they meet this Friday at 7.05pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
This after they won 36-33 over the Queensland Reds in a last-minute try by Isikeli Rabitu last Saturday.
Head coach Glen Jackson says the Drua’s losses against their opponents in the previous season is a thing of the past.
“Last year is last year; I know we played them first up with a very young team in Whangārei and so with that one sort of takeaway and then obviously against (in) a quarter-final that they went onto win so sort of both ends of the season that we played against them,” Jackson explained.
The Drua lost 10-34 to the Blues on February 24 last year at Okara Park in Whangārei, New Zealand and lost again in the quarter-finals with a 5-36 defeat on June 8 last year.
However, with Jackson’s side now playing at home in the remaining three rounds of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition, he says the team is excited for it.
“We’re excited for this year; we finally get them back at home and it’s a performance in Suva that we obviously want to make the crowd enjoy and our fans and our public that we can put back-to-back performances,” he emphasised.
He added his optimism at how being in the country and not having to travel abroad for away games was a plus for the team.
“It’s just great to be home for three weeks in our own surroundings and looking forward to getting up and having a game against the Blues,” he mentioned.
Meanwhile, the two sides have met four times, and the Blues have won over them by an average 22-point margin in each game while the Blues conceded 11.8 points per game in all four meetings.
