AS part of concerns raised at its annual general meeting, the Fiji Driving School Association received submissions on the extension of driving instructors permit to three years.

The association’s president Deo Narayan said extending the permit expiry from one to three years would stop the hassle that driving instructors go through to get their permits renewed.

“The requirements are a hassle and it will save money for members who pay close to $400 every year to renew their permits,” he said.

“With a membership of 150 driving schools based in towns around the country, the association donates close to $60,000 to Land Transport Authority annually,” said Mr Narayan.

“There have been talks between the association and the authority’s board and work is being finalised on the extension of the permit expiry.”

Meanwhile, speaking at the AGM yesterday Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu reminded instructors of their role in training drivers on Fiji’s roads, stressing to them that speeding continued to be the main cause of accidents and fatalities on the nation’s roads.

Mr Tudravu urged the association to partner with the Fiji Police Force to ensure safety on our roads.
