A YOUNG man and a woman are counting their lucky stars after they miraculously survived a flipped car accident.
The rental car they were travelling in, which the young man was driving, turned upside down while trying to dodge a dog yesterday morning along Mead Rd in Tamavua.
Witness, Viliame Waka, who was driving in another vehicle behind the rental car said a dog was crossing the road and the young man tried to avoid it, resulting in the accident.
Mr Waka said the back tyres of the rental car went airborne, 90 degrees from the ground and it landed on its roof.
He said he removed the victims from the car with the help of bystanders and a taxi took them to the hospital.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said at 10:15am yesterday the rental car was going down Mead Rd towards Nabua before the junction of Volavola Rd and Mead Rd, when it was alleged that a dog suddenly ran across the road causing the driver to swerve and the car hit the kerb before it tumbled upside down.
“There were only two people inside the car, the driver and passenger. Investigations continue and no serious injuries sustained,” Ms Naisoro said.
