People have no respect for law and order, says Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu.
Mr Driu said the festive season had brought about unnecessary concerns, which were serious hurdles to police operations.
He said not only had crime increased on land, but it had become popular in the online world.
“In terms of festive operation, one of the main challenges is that people tend to have no respect for law and order,” he said.
“Some use social media, and as we speak, the MPAiSA scam has become popular.
“We have warranted all our resources and manpower on the matter. So, most of our manpower is engaged in investigating these white-collar crimes, especially in Suva, Nadi, and Lautoka.
“Those are some of the challenges we are facing at the moment, we are working 24/7 on those areas and it consumes most of our resources.”
He reaffirmed police visibility on the ground would be maintained, ensuring that all divisions would be covered extensively.
