Do not cross floodwaters and use common sense while moving around.

Fiji Police Assistant Commissioner – Operations Livai Driu issued this advice as most parts of the country, particularly in the Western Division, are experiencing heavy rain and flash flooding.

He said officers were on standby should the weather worsen.

“Don’t even attempt to cross flooded roads or rivers. Don’t gamble your life with the wrath of mother nature because it can be devastating, ” ACP Driu warned.

“Standby teams are on alert at every police station,” he added, and urged those in flood-prone and low-lying areas to move to higher ground.

“We will continue to monitor the weather and we are closely liaising with our stakeholders as things develop.”

Members of the public residing in areas affected by the flashfloods are urged to contact the Fiji Police Force on 917 or the National Fire Authority on 910 if in need of assistance in moving to safety.
