Young Fijians should take advantage of the Government-supported affordable housing opportunities to secure long-term financial stability, says new homeowner Sulueti Tabua Chand.
The 35-year-old recently moved into her own home at the Housing Authority’s Nepani subdivision after years of living with her family in Navua, describing home ownership as a lifelong goal made possible through the initiative.
Ms Chand said she first became aware of the housing opportunity through friends and social media before deciding to apply after learning that eligible buyers could purchase homes through affordable housing loans with subsidised interest rates as low as two per cent.
“That sounds more better than just renting somewhere for the rest of your life.”
She said owning a home had also improved convenience for working residents who travel daily to Suva.
Ms Chand encouraged young people to consider the scheme as a pathway towards independence and security.
Housing Authority chairman Marika Sedre Luveniyali said the affordable housing model at Nepani would be expanded to other developments, including Davuilevu, Veikoba and Tavakubu.
“These projects are part of the broader vision to strengthen communities and uplift lives across Fiji,” he said.
