THE 81st Dakshina India Andhra Sangam of Fiji Convention Sports Tournament ended with some drama yesterday following a protest in the open division.

Samabula beat Tavua 2-1 in the first semi-final while Lomawai defeated Gallau 4-2 in the second.

Tavua protested that Samabula had fielded a North Indian player, but after checking registration profiles and ID cards, the committee ruled in favor of Samabula. Just before the final, Tavua players walked onto the field and sat in protest but were later told to leave by their committee.

In other sports results the Masters Division, Vaqia beat Ba 3-0 in the final.

In Netball, Ba defeated Lautoka 20-11 in the first semi-final and Navo beat Tavua 14-2 in the second. In the final, Ba won 11-7 against Navo.

In the much-anticipated Tug of War, Navo pulled their way to victory, defeating Lomawai in a dramatic finish.

Reflecting on the event, Games Committee Chairman Nilesh Naidu praised the smooth flow of the competition despite the tension.

“The weather was great. We hope that next year’s competition will be even better, creating a great atmosphere for this convention,” he said.
