DPP returns Soko file to police

Update: 2:36PM THE Director of Public Prosecutions has returned the file on the death of Vilikesa Soko to police for further investigations.

Soko was a suspect in the robbery of a City Forex money exchange outlet in Nadi in August.

The 30-year-old died at Lautoka Hospital in August from injuries allegedly sustained while in police custody.

“There are a number of issues which remain outstanding. I have returned the file to police to conduct further investigations,” the DPP Christopher Pryde said.

“Obviously, in matters as serious as the death of a person in police custody, it is important that all issues are looked at very carefully before a final decision on any charges is made.”

The DPP will not give a timeframe for the completion of the investigation or a decision but has given his assurances to the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
