A WONDERFUL variety of handmade Japanese dolls will be on display for the public from tomorrow at the Fiji Museum.
Representing the diversity of life in Japan, the dolls have travelled half way around the world to be exhibited here as part of a global exhibition.
Before coming to Fiji, the dolls were exhibited in New Zealand and will from here move on to an exhibition in Denmark.
Accompanied by their “doll doctor”, Masaru Aoki, all 70 of the dolls are about 14 years old.
“Dolls are not just loveable toys, but they have developed into artwork to be admired and appreciated,” Mr Aoki says.
He explains the time-consuming process through which the artist goes to create the dolls is one that requires attention and patience. This is the first time Mr Aoki and the dolls are visiting Fiji.
He said they were excited to be here.
