A lack of execution is what Swire Shipping Fijian Drua captain Mesake Doge acknowledged as a key area where the team faltered in their 5-34 defeat by the Blues last Friday.
Doge said the team went into the match with a game plan and a failure to execute it led to a performance that he described as “frustrating”.
“There were a lot of things that we could have done better and like the coach (Glen Jackson) was saying; the Blues did very well, they stopped us from trying to play our Fijian flair and obviously when they did that, it frustrated us and I guess they were the better men today,” Doge told the media.
In addition, the captain pointed out other areas where the team did not work their best in.
“There’s a little bit in everywhere but especially in certain areas of the game where sometimes it comes down to being vigilant at the breakdown and they have been more technical on that compared to us and the boys are still learning and we need to learn fast especially in tough games like this,” he added.
With only two more matches to go for the Drua after a season of fluctuating results, he says there is no backing out.
“Like I said to the boys; one game at a time. If we had this game in Lautoka, the boys would have come out firing and I know that,” he stressed.
“Like I told them, it’s never giving up. We’ll come again and again regardless of what’s happened this season and it’s very important for our character.”
“It didn’t happen like we planned but we must rise and try again.”
Meanwhile, head coach Glen Jackson added the team wanted to play a style of rugby that would make their fans turn out in numbers to support them, ahead of their clash against the Western Force in Lautoka this Saturday.
