Diwali Mela hype in Suva

THE Diwali Mela at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva is currently underway with people slowly making their way down to the venue.

The event is being organized by the High Commission of India with India Fiji Friendship Forum (IFFF).

Speaking at the opening of the event this morning, Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal said the response from the public had been encouraging and they expected more people to come down as the day progressed.

“During the day, a lot of competitions have been organized. The Diwali Mela will showcase music and dance, magic shows, children’s dance and music competition, performance by SEREGAMA little champs, fireworks display and free distribution of sweets and snacks,” Mr Sapkal said.

In the evening, there will also be a fireworks display at the venue.

The event concludes at 10pm tonight.
