Exporters and importers will now have better and timely service with transparency and less paperwork.

This after the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji’s (BAF) transformation from manual to digital services.

During the Fiji New Zealand and New Zealand Fiji Business Council 2026 joint conference, BAF acting chief executive officer Surend Pratap said the digital transformation would move away from slow and manual paperwork to a streamlined and electronic trade solution, which would reduce delays for stakeholders.

“By embracing digital solutions, the authority aims to strengthen its services and ensure more effective decision-making and resource management,” Mr Pratap said.

He said the recent digital transformation included electronic phytosanitary certification (ePhyto), online invoicing and digital documentation, and digital payment gateway and risk base cargo profiling.

Mr Pratap said the authority was also working on the development of an online permit system to modernise and digitise the permit application process. He said this would enable traders and stakeholders to submit permit applications electronically, improving accessibility and reducing reliance on manual, paper-based submissions.
