THE Fijian diaspora in Canada is interested in contributing to Fiji’s growth and development, said Investment Fiji board chairwoman Jenny Seeto.
In a meeting this week with members of the diaspora as part of the first phase of Investment Fiji’s Fiji-North America Business Mission in Surrey, Ms Seeto noted their interest to explore investment and trade opportunities in Fiji, ranging from land ventures to various sectors of the economy.
“The keen interest shown by the diaspora community in Canada reflects their enduring connection to our homeland and their commendable commitment to giving back to the Fiji community,” Ms Seeto said in a statement from Investment Fiji.
“Some of the diaspora community who have successful businesses here, have also expressed their desire to retire in Fiji.
“Their entrepreneurial success and enthusiasm exemplify the potential for diaspora investments to drive sustainable development and prosperity for Fiji.”
Throughout the Fiji-North America Business Mission, the Fiji delegation, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica, met with various diaspora groups including the Fiji community in Surrey, entrepreneurs, investors, i-Taukei Cultural Society in British Columbia and the Fiji Canada Association members.
The Business Mission is a collaborative effort between Investment Fiji, the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Fiji Trade Commission North America.
