Pacific Recycling Foundation founder Amitesh Deo says there is a need for people to work together for sustainability.

Mr Deo told the 2024 Global Recycling Day media conference last week this year’s theme of ‘Keeping Promises, A Commitment to Sustainability’, embodied the collective responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations and underscored the combined dedication to environmental stewardship.

“It is the element of effective partnership, especially accountability,” he said.

“When we are all holding each other accountable, not just holding government agencies accountable, but holding each other as individuals accountable, we are taking the right action.

“We want to encourage people to be more mindful of how much plastic we are using, what recyclables we are using, but more importantly, how we are disposing of those recyclables.”

Mr Deo said the Pacific Recycling Foundation in partnership with other stakeholders launched a major national campaign — the National Lapel Pin campaign — in which people could wear a pin to support the recycling movement.

The major celebration for the Global Recycling Day will be on March 18 at Queen Victoria School.
