RAROTONGA, 17 JUNE 2021 (COOK ISLANDS NEWS)—No probable or confirmed cases were reported from 06 June to June 13, showing signs the outbreak may finally be subsiding after it was declared by health officials in February this year.

One probable case was reported on Monday, officials said.

Aitutaki, sitting at four reported cases, remains the outer island with the highest number of cases in the Pa Enua.

Te Marae Ora reported Rarotonga has 200 probable and confirmed cases.

Numbers provided by the ministry indicated the tropical disease is most active on the south-eastern side of the island, particularly in the villages of Ngatangiia, which has 39 reported cases, and Titikaveka which has 26 cases.

There have been 52 hospitalisations to date.

In addition to Aitutaki, Mauke, and Mangaia have also been affected with one case each.

Te Marae Ora said the virus had continued to hover over Aitutaki but is not showing signs of rapid spreading.

Aitutaki residents were advised to remain vigilant in protecting themselves and their homes from the mosquitoes, which carry the disease.

Te Marae Ora continued to emphasis the importance of removing mosquito breeding and resting sites to help combat the outbreak.

The government’s next dengue progress report is expected on June 21.
