STRATUM Rewa FC delivered a clinical performance, thrashing Coastal Rental Cars/MMM Brothers Nadroga 6-0 at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday in their Extra Premier League match.
The Delta Tigers started slowly, but Josaia Sela broke the deadlock in the 28th minute of the first half. Just three minutes later, Asivorosi doubled Rewa’s lead, before Don Keana ended the first half on a high note, scoring in the final minute.
Rewa came out stronger after the break, continuously testing Nadroga’s defence.
Despite some poor execution early on, they finally found their rhythm, with Keana scoring his second and the team’s fourth goal in the 66th minute.
Epeli Valevou and Zafir Ali capped off the emphatic victory with goals in the 85th and 88th minutes respectively.
Head coach Priyant Manu praised his side’s performance and determination.
“The boys knew what was at stake and the boys really stood up today (yesterday) in the match,” he said.
“We had a slow start but after the water break, we started to pick up momentum and started to score goals finishing the game strong and this is what we hope to do in the coming games.”
The victory provides excellent momentum ahead of the OFC club competition.
“This was a good platform to play in really good ground condition, so the boys adapted in the second half, and we did what we came to do,” Manu explained.
Despite the dominant display, Manu is focused on improving the slow start before their next fixture against Nadi.
“It will be a tough task for us playing Nadi at home, but the message is simple: recover well, prepare well and come up with a good game plan against Nadi,” he said.
Other results: Ba FC edged Navua FC 1-0, Nasinu FC narrowly defeated Lautoka FC 2-1, and Tailevu Naitasiri secured a 1-0 win over Nadi.
