A businessman of Labasa has invested more than $3million for his two shops recently opened at Damodar Complex in Labasa.
Vinesh Dayal spent only $3.8million to purchase a block under strata at the Damodar complex.
With his block, Mr Dayal opened a new Lunch Box outlet and also leased part of the space to Prouds, which is set to open on Wednesday.
He also rented space within the complex to open the town’s first lounge and bar, Big Cats, which is set to offer a new entertainment option for the area.
Owner of the complex Div Damodar said the newly opened bar and eatery would positively impact the development level of the area.
“We are very grateful to Vinesh for his vision. We kept that quiet for a while, and he’s worked very hard on it,” he said.
Mr Damodar said the opening of the eatery and bar has provided job opportunities for locals.
“We see great potential for economic benefit from his focus on sports, food and beverage, catering, and the new coffee shops being built.”
Speaking at the opening, Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica said a lot of investors were confident now to invest in the North.
“Labasa will become more than just a regional hub — it could become a key part of Fiji’s next economic frontier,” he said.
Mr Kamikamica said the future for the Northern Division looks very promising.
He said infrastructure improvements in the North would get more investors to the region.
