Cycling hosts Fiji tour

CYCLING Fiji will be hosting our very own event equivalent to the Tour of France called the “250km Tour of Fiji” from October 7 to October 9.

A statement for cycling Fiji said 20 cyclists would be riding the 100km along the Kings Rd from Korovou to the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel on the first day.

On the second day cyclists will ride another 100km from the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel to Lautoka, while the third day will be a challenging time trial along the Sigatoka Valley Rd.

Each participant’s times would be timed from each stage and later summed to determine the overall winner for the Tour.

Cycling Fiji president and one of the Tour of Fiji organisers Peter Sinclair said they would be expecting some strong competition from both local and international riders.

“I call for all Fijians to come out and cheer the cyclists as they ride past,” Sinclair said.

Fiji’s National Cycling Champion Petero Manoa is one of the competitive local riders taking part in the event.

Petero Manoa is one of the competitive local riders taking part in the event.

“The Tour of Fiji allows local cyclists to compete against international riders, providing us with valuable cycling experience we would not otherwise have, allowing us to learn a lot from the more elite riders,” Manoa said.
