Currency circulation hits $1billion – RBF report

The Reserve Bank of Fiji’s 2022-2023 annual report says $1 billion worth of currency was in circulation as at July 31, 2023, compared with $973.4 million a year ago.

The value of notes in circulation was $941.5m.

And $517.6 million worth of $100 notes were in circulation with $234.8m worth of $50 notes out in the market during the financial year period.

“The $100 and $50 notes issued continued to be the highest in value, driven by its increasing usage in automated teller machines,” said the RBF.

The report said $20 notes worth $86.3m was in circulation while $57 million worth of $10 notes was in circulation.

The value of coins in circulation was $74.3m during the financial year.

The $1 and $2 coins registered a growth of 5 per cent to $18.9m and 8.9 per cent to $22.1m, respectively.

“The $2 and $1 coins issued continued to be the highest in value, reflecting the shift in public demand from low to high-value coins.”
