Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua center Merewai Cumu will be sidelined for at least 12 days following an injury sustained during last weekend’s match against the Melbourne Rebels.
Coach Moses Rauluni confirmed the news, stating, “Cumu will undergo a mandatory 12-day concussion protocol.”
“We will see how she will recover from there,” Rauluni said.
Cumu remained in Melbourne under the care of Fiji Rugby Union’s High-Performance Manager for Women’s Rugby, Alana Thomas, to receive optimal medical attention.
Encouragingly, Cumu was seen up and about as of yesterday and will return home today.
“That’s something we are happy about; we have been talking to Alana and we have got good news.”
Rauluni praised Yasawa flyer Atelaite Buna for her standout performance in the previous match against the Rebels.
“Atelaite Buna really a standout player for me, I’ve never seen her play before, I saw her in training days, but I knew she will be a standout when we see her coming from the bench, she’s something special,” the coach added.
Rauluni also highlighted the contributions of Salanieta Neibuli and Vika Matarugu, both of whom are currently nursing injuries.
“Despite sustaining an ankle injury, Neibuli and Matarugu played the full 80 minutes last week.
“We’re closely monitoring their recovery, which is why we delayed our team announcement to ensure they have sufficient time to heal,” Rauluni explained.
