RESIDENTS of Kabisi in Sigatoka claim that their crossing has been reconstructed 33 times because of flooding.

Kabisi resident Rajesh Nath said the crossing was often washed away by floodwaters.

He said the crossing was constructed at least 22 times from December 2019 to December 2020 and a further 11 times from December 2020 to January.

“The crossing is not strongly built and weak materials are used to construct it,” he claimed.

Mr Nath has called on the Fiji Roads Authority to look into the issue. He said proper inspection was needed.

“FRA should take some action, since a lot of money has gone into fixing this, to see whether the contractors are doing the job well or not.”

Questions sent to the Fiji Roads Authority remained unanswered when this edition went to press last night.
