Neymar is one of three Paris Saint-Germain players who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus after taking a vacation in Ibiza, Spain, according to reports.
Neymar is in isolation for two weeks at his house in Bougival, just east of Paris, after receiving his test results on Wednesday. He will miss PSG’s first Ligue 1 game of the season on September 10 against Lens and the Classique against Marseille on September 13.
PSG’s Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes, who also vacationed on the Spanish island, have tested positive and are in self-isolation. The club confirmed the positive results but did not reveal the players’ names.
PSG’s first match against Metz was postponed because PSG played in the August 23 Champions League final, losing to Bayern Munich. Under Ligue 1 protocols, a game must be postponed if a club has four positive cases.
Last week, Manchester United star Paul Pogba was removed from the France squad after testing positive for the virus. He was replaced by Eduardo Camavinga. The team plays Sweden on Friday and Croatia on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins is deploying the Ivan Drago theory of life when it comes to potentially contracting coronavirus during the 2020 NFL season.
“If I die, I die,” the Minnesota Vikings quarterback said on Spotify’s “10 Questions” podcast that was released Wednesday. “I kind of have peace about that.”
Cousins’ comments on Covid-19 came when asked about his comfort level of playing the season amid a pandemic.
“I think, more than anything, we didn’t, or don’t have, information,” Cousins said in the interview that appeared to be taped before training camp opened.
“And I think that’s what people wanted. Whatever it’s going to be, whatever the protocols are going to be, whether it’s extremely safe, whether there’s some risk involved, we would like to know what it is. What are we signing up for? As we got closer to camp, and we did not have that information, it became harder to feel comfortable going back to camp just because we did not know. … The more we know, whether it’s risky or not, then we can at least make an informed decision.
