COVID-19 Fiji: Three deaths and 467 new cases reported

Fiji has reported 467 new COVID-19 cases for the 24-hour period that ended at 8am on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

Ministry of Health and Medical Services permanent secretary Dr James Fong said 258 cases were from the Western Division and 209 cases from the Central Division.

Dr Fong also reported three new deaths for the period August 11 to August 13 – all three deaths were  reported in the Central Division.

Below are the details of the deceased persons provided this evening:

  • 62-year-old woman from Nakasi who died at home on 13/08/2021. She was not vaccinated.
  • 79-year-old man from Tailevu who died at home on 11/08/2021. He was not vaccinated.
  • 80-year-old woman from Suva who died at home on 14/08/2021. She was not vaccinated. 

At a glance as at August 16, 2021:

  • 231 new recoveries reported since the last update
  • 23,831 active cases
  • 17,226 active cases are in the Central Division, 6,604 in the West and one active case in the Northern Division
  • 40,167 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021
  • 40,237 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 15,841 recoveries.
