COVID-19: 47 new cases confirmed; over 900 cases recorded since second outbreak

Forty-seven cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Fiji tonight.

This takes the total number of infections since the second outbreak started in April to over 900, with 702 active cases currently in isolation.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary, Dr James Fong said  42 of the new cases are linked to the following existing clusters: CWMH: 19; Nawaka, Nadi: 15; IMT: 3; Waila – 1; Muanikoso- 1; Navy – 1; Reservoir Road – 2.

Dr Fong said cases from the following areas are under investigation to determine whether they have links to other cases: Wailoku -1, Wainibuka – 1, Tacirua -1, Davuilevu Housing – 1.

He said one case is noted to be a primary contact of an existing case and the contact tracing team are to confirm the cluster link.

He said 26 patients have recovered with 702 active cases in isolation while 944 cases were recorded during the current outbreak that started two months ago.

There have been 1014 cases recorded in Fiji since the first case was confirmed in March 2020, with 304 recoveries and four deaths.

Four other COVID-19 positive patients have died from pre-existing illnesses and are non-related to the virus.
