A suspended police officer and his partner have been remanded in custody after appearing in the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court over the alleged assault of a 12-year-old child. Saint George Sisi Tale and Tofua Raiyasi appeared for the first time before Magistrate Lice Manulevu and were jointly charged with one count of Act Intended to Cause Grievous Harm.
It is alleged that the two unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous harm to the 12-year-old victim by assaulting the child with an extension cord on September 8. Senior Prosecutor Simione Seruvatu objected to bail, citing the domestic relationship between the accused and the victim and the possibility of interference. Magistrate Manulevu remanded both accused in custody and advised them to file formal bail applications.
The court heard that both accused had received first-phase disclosures. Magistrate Manulevu has also issued an interim Domestic Violence Restraining order against the accused to protect the victim. The matter was adjourned to October 21 for further disclosures and the bail applications.
