John Stewart, a member of the Army rugby team that played against Police in the annual Sukuna Bowl competition at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park on Friday last week, was granted bail by the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

It is alleged the soldier assaulted a police officer on Sunday morning in Namaka.

He escaped from the Namaka Police Station but was arrested shortly after. While granting strict bail conditions magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa, told Mr Stewart not to re-offend, not to interfere with the prosecution witness and not to change his address while on bail.

Police prosecutor Police Constable Setaita Evu did not object to bail.

Defence lawyer, Iqbal Khan told the court that the disclosures were not legible with faint prints.

The case will be called for mention on February 23 next year.
