A CLEANER employed at a university has been convicted of raping and sexually assaulting his then 17- year-old niece in 2023.
In the High Court last week, Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull found the man guilty of three counts of sexual assault and a count of sexual assault. But he was acquitted of a count of sexual assault allegedly committed on October 10, 2023, in Nasinu.
Court records show the man moved into the victim’s home in August of 2023. While staying with them, he became authoritative and prevented the victim from doing her usual activities.
He would sexually assault her about three times in a week in either the boys’ or girls’ room.
The man began raping her sometime in September of 2023 but she could not tell her father because he was dependent on the man to buy food for their family.
The incident only came to light when the victim told her mother the man had been sexually assaulting and raping her.
In court the man denied the incidents, but Justice Bull in her judgment rejected his denials.
“I reject as untrue the accused’s denial of the allegations and the suggestion that the complainant fabricated the accusations against him,” the judge said.
