Couple put off celebrations after break in

DIWALI was ruined for a Lautoka couple after their shop was allegedly broken into by thieves early yesterday morning.

Jasyas Investment Wholesale and Retail Shop owners Jaswant and Raneeta Prasad were clearly angered by the heinous act of the suspected robbers.

“Now we have to cancel our Diwali plans because we have to make sure that the shop is secure enough before tonight,” Mrs said.

“We had relatives coming home, but we told them that we had to cancel our Diwali because of what happened.”

The shop, located along Vitogo Pde near the Kings highway, had its glass doors shattered.

“They removed our bar grilles first and then threw a stone at the door,” said Mr Prasad.

“Then they opened our second grille inside by removing the lock.

“When they were inside they opened the grilled doors into the shop where we had everything behind the counter.”

He said fortunately they did not keep their earnings inside the shop.

“This is not our first break in.

“We saw the last few times that the thieves knew where we put our things like we usually have some money in a pooja place.

“Last time there was about $200 and they stole that with other things.

“This time around we only had about $5 or $7 which they took as well.”

He said reports of the robbery incidents have been reported to police.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed a police report had been lodged at the Lautoka Police Station.

She said investigations continued.
