Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) co-ordinator Shamima Ali says while the Coalition Government has had its issues, the country needs to “keep them together”.

Speaking on The Fiji Times online platform The Lens @177 this week, Ms Ali said while Government had a huge opportunity, coalitions were always difficult.

“We have a huge opportunity to make things better and I will support it to do just that,” Ms Ali said.

“While people are talking about the fact that we are very quiet when this Government does this and that, it’s very fragile. It’s a coalition. And there have been issues around that.

“We need to keep them together and they need to keep together. So, we need to hold them accountable. We can do it in various ways. I definitely don’t want at this point in time, any other government to come into power.”

She said there were still issues with the way things were carried out, such as causing traffic jams to accommodate entourages of high-ranking personnel, which she said she had personally experienced.

Ms Ali also said she had voiced out those concerns to Government ministers, and also noted that they were more open towards seeking out her opinions on certain issues.

She also commended Government for its swift response to some of the more pressing issues facing people, including much-needed investment into the upgrade of infrastructure around the country.
