The Coral Coasters 7s youth team is a source of great pride for the villages along the Coral Coast in Sigatoka.
This newly formed team is made up of talented young men who are eager for the opportunity to showcase their skills at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s this week.
Team manager, Brett Sundell, is happy to report that preparations are going well. The team has been putting in the hard work, focusing on essential skills such as passing, tackling, fitness, and unit cohesion.
“They have also been intentional about building chemistry both on and off the pitch, including attending church together.
“As with any group of young athletes, they have faced challenges in finding a balance between school, jobs, family life, and training,” said Sundell.
“Their limited budget has provided its own obstacles. However, despite these difficulties, the team has remained united and grateful for the opportunity to compete in front of their community,” he added.
The Coral Coasters see themselves as the underdogs, but they are determined to represent their communities with pride. While they may not have high expectations in terms of results, they are focused on enjoying the experience and playing with passion.
Sundell hopes that this tournament will open pathways to representative honors for some of these fine young men in the future.
“The team is grateful to the organisers and sponsors of The McDonald’s Coral Coast Sevens for making this opportunity possible.”
