Update: 12:32PM THE Government will spend $1.2million to construct a fire station along the Coral Coast.
Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new fire station in Korolevu, Sigatoka yesterday and said this development would assist nearby communities access fire and emergency management services.
The region of Korolevu and Coral Coast have witnessed and experienced some of the huge hotel fires like the Naviti Resort fire, Natavora and the Warwick fire, which had devastating impact to hotels and the tourism sector in the Coral Coast, he said.
He said by the time firefighters from Sigatoka had responded to the fires, huge parts of the hotels were already destroyed.
The project is expected to finish in September.
