Consumer Council appoints new CEO

FORMER Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) manager Research and Product Development Seema Shandil has been appointed the new CEO for the Consumer Council of Fiji.

Mrs Shandil took up office on January 23.Consumer Council of Fiji chairperson Raman Dahia congratulated Mrs Shandil noting her extensive work experience in the field of research, economics, project management and education.

Mr Dahia said Mrs Shandil’s appointment was an added impetus in the work to ensure consumer rights were protected.

“Mrs Shandil’s wealth of experience and drive will be vital to ensuring the council continues to play a lead role in voicing the concerns of consumers, especially as consumer rights encounter new challenges posed by ever-expanding digital and technological frontiers.”

Mr Dahia said the Council followed a thorough and robust recruitment process in accordance with requirements of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

Mrs Shandil said it was a tremendous honour and privilege to be given an opportunity to lead such an important organisation that will provide her with a platform to be a consumer champion and to continue working towards improving the marketplace for consumers in Fiji.

Mrs Shandil has more than 20 years of work experience and has also worked as an economist at the Reserve Bank of Fiji and as an educator with the Ministry of Education.

She holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of the South Pacific, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts with double majors in Economics and Education.

Mrs Shandil replaces Premila Kumar who is now the Minister for Industry, TradeĀ andĀ Tourism.
