Fiji’s featherweight champion Junior Binnu Singh will be out to create a new legacy when he takes on Australia-based Runqi Zhou during the July 19 Kings Boxing Promotions in Suva.
Singh officially signed the contract yesterday with promoter Nahroon Buksh and it was witnessed by Boxing Commission of Fiji chairman Adi Narayan.
The 24-year-old from Sigatoka is need of a sparring partner, prompting his family to make arrangement for his travel to Melbourne for specialised training.
While that is still in discussion, Singh believes that mentally he is fit enough to face Zhou.
“I know one will lose, and one will win, it’s just a fight, I’m coming prepared, mentally I know I am fit enough to fight him and go for the victory.
“Mental preparation is 100 per cent in boxing because everything is on our mind,” Singh said.
Behind this confidence, is his sense of grief for the late Ubayd Haider and the hunger to create a new legacy.
“The biggest motivation to fight Runqi Zhou is because he fought Nathan (Ubayd Haider). Nathan (Ubayd Haider ) was just like my brother, and he lost his life in that fight, so I wanted to fight that guy and prove that there are other better guys in Fiji to fight him,” he added.
Singh will fight for the WBA sanctioned Super Bantam weight against Zhou.
It is one of three title fights scheduled for fight night.
The other title includes the New Zealand Professional Boxing Commission (NZPBC) super featherweight title which will be contested by Mikaele Ravalaca and Kiwi boxer Ross Malthus.
James Singh will be taking on Semi Dauloloma in a re-match for he BCF heavyweight title.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
