POLICE Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has warned that respect for authority among the younger generation is dying.
He told the Nadroga Arya College passing-out parade in Sigatoka on Friday, this is the sad reality the authorities face today.
“Authority comes in many forms, such as your parents, teachers, guardians, laws of the land, school rules and your elders,” Mr Tudravu said.
“Sadly, however, respect for authority is dying amongst our younger generation.
“Many think that with education they know better than their parents and teachers, however, let me warn you, this attitude will take you down a regrettable path in life.”
Mr Tudravu appealed to the students to respect their parents and teachers.
“What I am stressing is respect for authority.
“It starts at home, to your teachers and people in authority, but it seems that it is dying out with this younger generation.”
Mr Tudravu said this was one reason cadet programs need to be introduced in schools.
“That is the very reason I would like to instil discipline and get cadet programs to be done in our secondary schools, and I hope it will come down to primary schools.”
